A. Ya. Dybantsregular season debut with Wizards will not happen on Friday against Toronto, tweets Josh Robbins of The Athletic. The No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft has been ruled out of the second straight contest as he continues to recover from a sprained left ankle suffered last week in the preseason finale in Washington.
A great man Tristan Vuktsevich (left hip sprain) has also been ruled out for Friday’s game, while rookie center field Felix Okpara listed as questionable due to illness, Robbins notes.
Here’s some more NBA injury news:
- Saint Aldama (surgery on the right knee), Tarik Biberavich (bursitis of the right heel), Derek Lively II (surgery on the right foot) and Caleb Martin (dislocation of right thumb) with Mavericks Christian Clark of The Athletic (Twitter references). A two-way player Jett Howard (right lower leg soreness) is considered questionable. As Clark notes, this is the first time Dallas and the star quarterback have met Kyrie Irving – who missed all of last season recovering from a torn ACL – is not on the injury report.
- After the absence Pacers‘ opens the season on Wednesday, the backup point guard TJ McConnell the team announced it will also sit out Friday’s home opener against Dallas (via Twitter). McConnell is still dealing with a strained right hamstring. Starting wing Aaron Nesmith was upgraded to questionable with a left hamstring strain, while Ben Sheppard — who was active Wednesday — was downgraded to questionable with a sore left knee.
- Magic security guard Anthony Black was a full participant in Thursday’s practice, which was more of an instructional session than anything strenuous, head coach Sean Sweeney told reporters, including Jason Bead of The Orlando Sentinel (Link to video on Twitter). While the former lottery pick is said to be progressing well with his sprained right ankle, he will be sidelined again for Friday’s contest against Minnesota after missing the home opener and the entire preseason, according to Bead (Link to Twitter). Jonathan Isaac (treatment of left knee injury) also remains on the sidelines.
