Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight contender he wants next.
Garry wants to win the 170-pounder Michael Morales next and believes a victory over the Ecuadorian will give another shot at the lightweight championship.
Ian Garry is targeting Michael Morales as his way back to Islami Makhachev or Carlos Prates
Garry, who lost to the reigning champion Islam Makhachov by unanimous decision at UFC 330 in August, has not called for an immediate rematch. The Irishman wants his claim to a second title win to be undisputed, and claiming to be the first to defeat Morales is the perfect claim.
“There’s only one fight that makes sense to me right now,” Garry Eze told Talks Sports. “It’s Michael Morales. If I beat him, I’m the only one who deserves a title shot, even though me and Islam just fought.”
Carlos Prateswhose only loss in the UFC came against Garry, looks set to be the next challenger for the welterweight belt. The Future says a decision win over Morales paves the way for a Makhachev vs. Prates rematch with the winner.
“Whether Islam wins, whether Carlos Prates wins the next fight, those are two massive rematches,” added Garry. “If I go out and finish Michael Morales and put my hand up, there’s no question that I’m back for a title shot. That’s what I think is next.”
