Don Hutchison has backed David Moyes to take over everton to the next level, but insists the club must overhaul their recruitment approach if they are to return to European football.
Hutchison dismissed the skepticism surrounding Moyes among sections of Everton’s fan base, pointing to the manager’s record at West Ham as proof he is more than capable of delivering success in the right environment.
“I think he can take them to the next level. I know some Evertonians are a bit sad about Moyes but I don’t understand,” he said, speaking to betting
“Look at the job he did at West Ham. He took them to Europe for three seasons in a row and won the Europa Conference League. Everton have the right manager but they need investment.
“They have to sign £60m or £75m players, or recruit smarter. Clubs like Bournemouth, Brentford and Brighton have shown you don’t always have to buy big names.
“You need a strong scouting network to find the next Justin Kluivert, Antoine Semenyo or players who can beat their price. If Everton want to get back to Europe, this is the route: keep Moyes and improve recruitment.”
“They play with an elite player”
Hutchinson believes that the presence of Jack Grealish will be an important factor in the success of the club this season, after the Manchester City The man joined the Toffees on loan for another year.
“I think he will be fantastic. I don’t think the club had to persuade him to join, he actively wanted to be there.
“He has a great football brain. He can slow down games, bring other players into play and control the pace. You can see why Pep Guardiola values him.
“Now it’s up to David Moyes to get the best out of him, but the other Everton players have to use their footballing intelligence as well.
“They are playing with an elite player and they have to make runs and read the game at the same level as him.”
