How To Clean And Maintain An Electric Golf Push Cart

When you spend $1,000 or more in a electric golf cartmake an investment that you want (and expect) to last.

Similar to changing the oil in your car, lubricating the door hinges or installing software updates on your phone, proper maintenance will save you money in the long run.

Whether you just bought your first electric golf cart or have one that you’ve been rocking for a while, here are some tips and tricks to extend its life.

Battery health

Similar to an electric vehicle, there are steps you can take to extend the life of your cart’s battery. Considering that the battery makes up a large part of your investment, these steps are worth it.

First, if your cart has a lithium battery, try not to drain it to zero. Feel free to charge it to 100 percent, but always try to connect while it still has at least some charge. You will benefit in the long run by making this a habit.

If you have an electric cart with a lead-acid battery, fully charge it after each use.

While the advice I can offer is helpful, battery care instructions vary from cart to cart. For example, Motocaddy recommends charging your electric golf cart battery to 100 percent if you’re not playing for a couple of weeks while Alphard recommends keeping your battery between 50 and 70 percent.

The best advice is to refer to the website of the manufacturer of your electric golf cart. Most, if not all, should have a battery care page with specific instructions for maintaining the battery and increasing its life.

wheels

Making your wheels last is an easier endeavor, but one that is still worth paying attention to.

Cleaning the dirt and other debris out of the treads and wheel wells is the most important part. Avoiding rough or rocky terrain is also helpful.

As for those pesky wheels, it’s easy to clean with a hose, a brush, a rag and a little elbow grease. Some clubs even have high pressure air hoses to remove grass, mud and other debris from your cart as well as your shoes.

If you have more severe problems, such as alignment problems, refer to the instruction pamphlet from the OEM for more help. If you can’t figure it out, the next best option is a quick email to the OEM or a quick trip to YouTube for some community help.

Storage

Proper storage is another deciding factor in the life of your electric golf cart.

Ideally, use the original box that your electric golf cart came in. electric golf cart.

Make sure your remote control is installed in an easy-to-find location. Whether it’s in your original box or somewhere else, it doesn’t really matter, but you don’t want to lose it because replacements are expensive.

Last but not least, make sure your electric golf cart is stored in a cool and dry place.

Additional advice

  • Familiarize yourself with the manufacturer’s instructions: Carefully check the manufacturer’s instructions and safety guidelines. Understanding the correct configuration and operation of your cart is crucial to prevent mishaps such as ending up in a water hazard.
  • Using free wheel mode: If available, learn how to put your cart into freewheel mode. This can be a lifesaver if your battery dies unexpectedly.
  • Update your software regularly: If your electric golf cart supports software updates, keeping it updated is important. If you want your cart’s operating system to run quickly and smoothly, don’t skip this step!
