If you’ve spent any time on the putting green lately, you’ve noticed the trend: mallets are winning. So it’s no shock Odyssey is leaning into this with its new TRTL line, bringing more animal inspiration to the mall market. This line has high aspirations to compete for market share in a crowded space, but if there is one company up to the task, it will be the Odyssey team.
The TRTL technically comes in two flavors. The standard TRTL mallet shape, which takes design cues from the anatomy of a turtle, is built for easy alignment and comes in a Crank Hosel, Double Bend and S Neck version. Has been The “prototype” of Min Woo Lee’s neck at this year’s Pebble Beach Pro-Am that officially started the buzz.

Then there’s the TRTL Max S2S, which pursues maximum MOI and uses Odyssey’s popular Square-2-Square design with zero torque. It is built for players who want to minimize face rotation and keep the putter face square throughout the stroke. The MAX shape is also slightly larger than the standard body, which helps further increase the deck’s MOI value and creates an even more stable shot for a nice and easy straight and straight through, square-to-square experience.
Each model gets a new Twin Track alignment system with long, uninterrupted lines, plus the new Ai-Star insert. It’s a double-layer design: an inner layer of aluminum under a firmer urethane surface. The goal is consistent ball speed in the face and a better forward roll, with a new deeper groove package, Forward Roll Design (at a slope of 19 °) that help so. Expect a firmer, more responsive feel than you might associate with softer Odyssey inserts like the White Hot.
Construction is a multi-material affair. A steel body with a black PVD finish sits under a lightweight ABS shell and an aerospace aluminum sole. That mix pushes the weight to the perimeter for stability and forgiveness. Four discrete weights in the corners allow you to move the CG towards the front, back, heel or toe, and adjust the toe hang, which is unusual for an Odyssey mallet, but extremely useful in suitable environments or when calling a putter to the perfect specification for the best players in the world. The new sole geometry, with refined rake and camber, is designed to help the putter sit in place the moment you put it behind the ball.
The design team says it took a while to get there.

“We’ve spent a lot of time developing and fine-tuning this product over the last year and a half,” said Eric Stubben, Odyssey R&D Director, Putters. “Conceptually it maximizes MOI and that’s something we believe in. We want to bring the alignment line up to the face, to soften the edges, and we want to make the alignment lines very visible. We feel really excited about where we ended up from a functionality point and also from a design point. more consistent bullet speed and better distance control on the face.”
Luke Williams, Sr. Director of Odyssey Putters, was even bolder: “We believe this is the next iconic Odyssey shape. Everything we put into it, from the new mallet shape to the insert, alignment and sole is engineered so you can trust the TRTL to put your best. It’s already trending on tour, we expect players to excel, we see excellent performance. it’s in their hands.”
There is evidence behind the trust. The TRTL debuted earlier this year in Japan, where its four models have been the top four sellers since launch and helped the Odyssey garner a 50 percent market share. On tour, it is already the most requested putter model from the company. Min Woo Lee and recent LPGA winner Yuna Nishimura are among the players who have put it into play, along with plenty of non-staff, and Odyssey expects even more of them to turn up as the world tours head into 2027.
The Odyssey TRTL and TRTL MAX are all-new shapes designed to deliver outstanding MOI in a modern, confidence-inspiring design. They feature our new Twin Track alignment with long, uninterrupted lines. Each model features our new Ai-Star insert, a dual-layer construction that combines urethane and engineered aluminum to deliver consistent ball speed across the face and improve forward roll while providing an iconic Odyssey feel.

The thing that has me most excited about the TRTL line is the new Ai-Star face insert. It feels great and, because of the Forward Roll Design groove package, makes the ball break quickly. For me, it’s easily a top-three putter in my arsenal in terms of the roll it puts on the golf ball. Based on the feel it’s the closest thing we’ve got to the old-school micro-hinged face that players absolutely loved. It gives great feedback from the face while also providing some ball speed. And the face feels like it hugs the golf ball for a minute before letting it come off the face, which helps provide a wonderful feeling of control from the putter. If you’re someone who thinks the White Hot face is too soft, but the Damascus face is too firm, TRTL’s new Ai-Star face insert is absolutely the ticket.

I can’t count the number of Tour updates we’ve seen Callaway’s Johnny Thompson where he mentioned these “prototypes” on tour, but I’m glad we can all finally see and appreciate the TRTL line that seems to be growing in popularity every week.
And now, please, let me close this with a cool story about Billy Horschel.
Horschel searched all year for a putter. He has passed through at least seven that we have seen or known, but his change to Odysseus changed his place. At the conclusion of the Scottish Open he was losing more than 2 strokes to the field in putting, but after a change to the Ai-Dual Rossie, from the Open 3M to the Wyndham he changed the script and earned more than 3 shots. Most recently from Asheville through his game in Japan, equipped with a TRTL, he gained more than 7 shots in 12 rounds. It’s a meteoric rise over a year.
