The Heat argued No Mbengo from refusal and will sign it on Exhibition 10 contract, according to Anthony Chung of the Miami Herald. Mbeng is expected to take part in training camp with the Heat next week.
Hornets placed Mbeng on weekend waivers.
Charlotte signed the former Yale defenseman to an Annex 10 contract earlier this month, though his G League rights are still controlled by the Sioux City Skyforce.
The 6-foot-4 guard played 15 games for the Jazz last season as a rookie, averaging 8.1 points, 4.1 assists with just 1.5 turnovers and 2.3 steals per game, though he shot just 19.4 percent from three-point range and 64.0 percent from the free-throw.
He spent most of last season in Skyforce. He averaged 6.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.9 steals per game while shooting 49% from the field and 26.7% on 1.8 three-point attempts per game in 41 appearances.
This addition expands the Heath camp to 19 players. Miami is expected to sign at least one more player to an Annex 10 deal before training camp begins.
Mbeng is likely to return to the Skyforce, where he will be eligible for a bonus of up to $91,000 if he stays at the club for at least 60 days.
