After hitting .199 in 2024, Jake Bauers planned to retire while his wife Lauren went back to teaching. Three days later she told him she was pregnant with their second child, and in his words, they needed health insurance.
So he kept playing. This year he hit 26 home runs and missed the NL on-base title by a single point. Against the Dodgers he had a 12-pitch walk, an 11-pitch home run and six RBIs, tied for the Brewers’ postseason series record, and he won NLCS MVP.
