The Grizzlies have entered into a multi-year deal with DAZN to become their new local broadcast partner, according to a press release from the team.
In recent years, the direct-to-consumer route has become increasingly common for local media. In addition to all four preseason contests, DAZN will broadcast 78 of Memphis’ 80 announced regular season contests, with 15 of those contests available for free on the DAZN app and simulcast locally.
The Grizzlies’ broadcast territory, to which DAZN owns the rights, covers parts of seven states, including Tennessee, Mississippi, Kentucky, Alabama, Missouri, Central and Southern Illinois and Eastern Arkansas. Season ticket holders will get free access to a DAZN season pass, which normally costs $119.99 per year. There is also a monthly subscription starting at $19.99 per month.
Memphis’ broadcast staff will remain intact, with Pete Pranica entering his 23rd season as the Grizzlies broadcaster, Brewin Knight he enters his 17th season as a television analyst, while Rob Fisher enters his 20th season as a reporter.
The Grizzlies’ partnership with DAZN was expected, according to Sports Business Journal reported in late July, DAZN was expected to carry local broadcasts of several teams. Many of these clubs — including Memphis — previously partnered with Main Street Sports Group (formerly known as Diamond Sports Group) for local broadcasts.
Main Street, the company that operated the FanDuel Sports Network, went out of business earlier this year and will no longer broadcast games, prompting the NBA to order those teams to seek new regional deals for the 2026/27 season.
The league’s ultimate goal is to create its own streaming hub for local broadcasts. The NBA told teams earlier this year that there was a possibility the center could be in place for the start of the 2026/27 season, but the league is now targeting the ’27/28 season, so most clubs negotiating with DAZN are looking for either one-year deals or opt-out clauses after the first year. So does Memphis, despite the fact that the agreement is technically a multi-year contract.
