Sunday night’s game between the Giants and the Cowboys will provide a chance for Greg Newsome and George Pickens to renew their relationship.
The two men last faced each other when Newsome was a Browns cornerback and Pickens was a Steelers wide receiver during the 2024 season. In a Hail Mary attempt at the end of a 24-19 Browns victory in Week 12, Newsome and Pickens tackled each other and then continued their brawl after the ball fell incomplete.
Physical interaction turned into a battle of wordsbut Pickens missed the second game between the AFC North teams with a hamstring injury and the two players never met last season. They will be back on the same field this week, and Newsome downplayed the idea of having unfinished business while acknowledging that the history between the players adds to the game.
“I I wouldn’t say that,” Newsome said, via Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News. “I’d just say every receiver I go against has work to do technically. My job is to shut them down no matter what. Obviously I’ve had a lot of struggles with him, so it’s going to be a little bit more special. But my job is to shut them down.”
Newsome praised Pickens as “great at the catch point” and also noted how good CeeDee Lamb is before adding that “I like our chances” to win the game. That would be just the beginning of the John Harbaugh era the Giants are looking for in Week 1.
