Glasgow have secured the future of seconds Scotland lock in as many days after agreeing a contract extension with Alex Craig until at least the summer of 2029.
29-year-old ex Gloucester the second row arrived at Scotstoun in the summer of 2025 after a two-year spell with the Welsh Scarlets.
After a delayed start due to injury, Craig made 16 appearances for the Warriors last season and also earned his first Scotland cap since November 2024 – seventh in total – as a substitute in their final. Six Nations game against Ireland.
But a torn tendon in his foot ended his season at the end of March, ruling him out of Scotland’s starting XI Nations Championship games in July.
Now back to full fitness, Craig returned to competitive action last Saturday, playing 52 minutes of Glasgow’s first Champions Cup win in Sale and scored his first try to put the club in contention for a place in Gregor Townsend’s squad for the November games against New Zealand, Australia and Japan in Murrayfield.
The Dumfries-born Brak will remain at Scotstoun for at least two more years after the end of this season, joining fellow Scot Alex Samuel in committing his future to the Warriors.
“I’m absolutely delighted,” said Craig, who had a 99.1% tackle rate last season, better than any player in the major club competitions with over 100 tackles.
“It was a really easy decision to be honest – I’ve loved my first season at the club, and I’m really excited to see what we can achieve as a group. We’re building well together at Scotstoun and I feel like we’re in a great place.”
“I definitely felt like I took a little time to get my feet wet in my first year here, but everyone at the club has created such a welcoming environment to come in and be a part of. I’ve fit in really well and I’m looking forward to continuing over the next few years.”
“It was great to be back on the pitch on Saturday, and even better to be back for a try – I don’t score many goals! It was a lot of hard work from the team before I got the ball over the line, so I’ll take it, but credit definitely has to be shared.
“I just want to play my best for Glasgow Warriors every time the coaches pick me. It’s a team I’ve supported since I was growing up, so it means a lot to me to have the honor of representing the club and the fans. Obviously I’d like to continue to play for Scotland, but I’ve given myself first honors as well as given myself first honors as well as the strongest possible position.”
Warriors head coach Franco Smith said Craig has “dedicated himself to becoming the best version of himself that he can be, both on and off the field” since arriving at Scotstoun.
“He’s someone for whom being a Glasgow Warrior means a lot, both to him personally and to his family, and you can see that every time he steps out onto the field,” added Smith.
“He plays an important role for us both with his carrying and his defensive expertise, and we are delighted that he will be staying at Scotstoun for the next few seasons.”
