GREGOR HIDDLESTON DOUBLE HELPS SEND GLASGOW TOP
Glasgow whore Gregor Hiddleston scored two first-half tries in their 36-19 win against Connacht at Scotstoun Stadium, which lifted them to the top United Rugby Championship hundred.
After Connacht conceded Ciaran Frawley’s missed try, the visitors took the lead through Sean Jansen’s eighth try before Glasgow took control with three goals before half-time.
Hiddleston came on to reduce the deficit and after flanker Rory Darge went over for the conversion, the whore went over for his second try and George Horne added two conversions to give Glasgow a 19-7 half-time lead.
Warriors fullback Josh McKay ran in the home side’s fourth try, converted by Horne, shortly after the restart to extend their lead to 26-7, but Connacht responded quickly when fullback Josh Ioane got to the ball and Frawley added the extras.
Kiwi fly-half Ioane went over for his second and Connacht’s third try – Frawley missed the conversion attempt – to leave his side 26-19 up with 17 minutes remaining.
Glasgow then halted Connacht’s momentum when substitute Seb Stephen kicked over for their fifth try, converted by Horne, to make it 33-19.
Connacht’s comeback hopes were dealt another blow when second-row substitute Josh Murphy was kept clean.
Glasgow finished with 14 men after Scott Cummings’ late yellow card, but fly-half Dan Lancaster conceded a late penalty to complete the scoring.
OSPREY UP AND RUNNING THANKS TO MORGAN MORRIS
Morgan Morris netted twice in the last nine minutes as Ospreys took their first win of the URC season, 38-31 away from the in-form Dragons.
In a bruising, physical derby in Wales that saw two players from each side injured, it was the visitors who got the better of Rodney Parade.
The Dragons, second at the top after three rounds, held a narrow 14-12 lead at the interval, Elliot Dee’s first score being improved by Keelan Giles and Ross Moriarty only for the latter to be penalized on the stroke of half-time. Moriarty coughed up a penalty on the line and was sent to the heating bin as the hosts went in front.
Mauls and drives were the order of the day as Ospreys co-captain Sam Parry powered over twice, either side of a second from Dee. Anzelo Tuitavuki then finished a rare fluent move to make it 28-26 for the Dragons – a score that remained until Morris scored from close range in the 71st minute.
A tense finish followed, with Morris the number eight finding himself in position to make the final push as Mark Jones’ side succeeded with a patient late attack.
Dan Edwards converted his fourth of the night, but the home side still had time to salvage a second bonus point, with Angus O’Brien slotting home the final penalty.
