Someone is checking the pulse of the Global Fight League.
After several failed starts, canceled events, financial problems and more comeback announcements than the average retired fighter, Global Fight League (GFL) claims to finally hold its inaugural mixed martial arts (MMA) event on Friday, December 18, 2026 at the Microestadio Club Atletico Lanús in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Yes, GFL announced its debut. Again.
“The wait is over. The Global Fight League is here,” the ad read social media. “A new era in MMA begins on December 18 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.”
That’s certainly one way to describe it.
In a team-based format, the debut event features the Miami Monsters traveling south to take on the newly formed Buenos Aires Gauchos. Full rosters and individual matchups have yet to be announced, although the former UFC title challenger Marlon Moraes has been added to Miami.
Moraes recently returned from retirement and snapped a seven-fight losing streak with a unanimous decision win Maximiliano Perez in August.
The entire launch collapsed after the funding promised by GFL disappeared. The campaign touted a fighter-friendly business model that included a 50-50 revenue split, health benefits and retirement plans. Unfortunately, revenue sharing becomes difficult when there are no events and no revenue.
GFL then rose from the grave earlier this year and announced another launch event on October 17, 2026Sam’s Town Live in Las Vegas, Nevada. The announcement was eventually scrubbed from social media and October 17th came and went without a beat.
Maybe the third time really is the charm.
Further details on the December 18 event – including the full fight card, broadcast information and start time – are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
As long as the cage is assembled and the two fighters are actually locked inside, the GFL remains undefeated when announcing events and undefeated when holding them.
