Steveson (4-1) was a heavy betting favorite entering UFC 331. He made stormy claims ahead of the fight, leaving Sharaf as nothing more than a stepping stone to his championship aspirations. The fans also turned on him and the Olympian was mercilessly booed during the pre-fight formalities and on fight night, further fueled by Sharaf digging him in the pre-fight press.
First-rounder Abraham Kawa backed his client to continue his legendary UFC career despite this setback, citing early defeats for several champions and Hall of Famers including Islam Makhachov, George St. Pierre, Daniel Cormier and Demetrius Johnson.
