During her WWE tenure, Conway definitely had the look that Vince McMahon was looking for, and according to her, McMahon had exceptionally high praise for her.
during the interviewINSIGHT with Chris Van VlietConway claimed that McMahon dragged her and Grenier into a La Résistance run one night when he told her what he saw in her.
“He said: “Rob, I think you’re just one step below Bret Hart as a jobber,” Conway recalled. “He said: “But you have a trick. You don’t have to worry about having such good games. Gotta do a trick.”
Conway claimed that McMahon would never wish them a good match ahead of time, and simply encourages them to fly their flags because he believes that is an important aspect of their gimmick. Afterward, Conway said they finally figured out how to develop their characters, realizing they weren’t there to have five-star matches, but to generate heat.
“And so every time I became a singles wrestler, I already knew that Vince liked my ability in the ring,” he said, adding that he also worked on his physique and drastically changed his appearance.
“I did a promo once and it went really well and when I did it and he said, “I was never promised anything, but it felt like … Where I was going in the beginning was the Intercontinental Championship, that’s kind of the main step to being like the main event.”
