Former Australia U20 captain among two new faces in Wallabies squad

Ex Australia U20 captain Teddy Wilson and loosehead prop Tom Lambert could make their Wallabies debuts next month, with Les Kiss including uncapped prospects in November’s 33-man squad Nations Championship Tests.

Wilson captained Australia at the 2023 Rugby World Juniors and was a regular for NSW Waratahs since then. The number 9 made 14 appearances for the Tahs during that time Super Rugby Pacific last season, before suiting up again during Super Rugby AUS.

The scrum-half helped Easts win the Shute Shield on September 5, playing alongside Waratahs teammate Sid Harvey. Wilson was awarded a place at the Wallabies, marking his first call-up to the top team.

Lambert is another uncapped prospect in the group, who has put in strong performances for the Waratahs. However, the first-rounder will wear maroon next season, having signed a two-year deal with the Queensland Reds.

Kiss made some notable selections, with former All Black-turned-Wallaby Aidan Ross among those left out. Nick Champion de Crespigny, Toby Macpherson, Zane Nonggorr, Harry McLaughlin-Phillips, Jordan Petaia and Kalani Thomas also missed out.

Fly-half Carter Godon is back in the mix after overcoming a leg injury. Second rower Miles Amatosero has also been recalled, but will play for the stars first Australia A side against a USA XV in Nashville this weekend.

The Wallabies travel from Australia to the United Kingdom next Saturday.

“There is a real buzz amongst the squad as we prepare for what will be four incredibly challenging matches against high-quality opposition as part of the Nations Championship Tests in November,” said Kiss

“As coaches, we have made some tough selection calls to maintain depth at all levels and we know that a tour like this will challenge the whole squad on many levels.

“This tour gives us another valuable opportunity to test new combinations, strengthen existing relationships and push our game forward in all areas.”
