Custer recently became a free agent after his contract with AEW expired in early October, although he did not appear on television for the entirety of 2026. The former AEW World Tag Team Champion has remained active this year, wrestling in various independent promotions such as Mystery Wrestling, House of Glory and Beyond Wrestling. To prepare for the game, Custer even went back into the music studio to release a short diss track directed at Moose ahead of this Sunday’s game.

It’s currently unclear if Custer has signed a full-time deal with TNA, though he will be able to sign one as he let his AEW contract expire, meaning he won’t have a non-compete clause preventing him from regularly working elsewhere. The same goes for his former tag team partner Anthony Bowens, as he also let his contract with AEW expire on the same day as Custer, although at the time of writing, there was no indication that he would also be linked with TNA in the near future. Both men left AEW as former World Tag Team and World Trios Champions. the last of those belts is held next to “Daddy A**” Billy Gunn.
