Hurricanes The future of star and debutant All Black Fehi Fineanganofo has been decided after he penned a new contract with NZR.
The 24-year-old has signed a one-year extension until the end of 2027 which will see the winger remain New Zealand with Bay of Plenty and hurricanes.
The Newcastle Red Bulls agreed to reworked terms so Finenganofo could stay another year to play for All black people next year Rugby World Cup in Australia.
Newcastle Red Bulls sporting general manager Neil McIlroy said the club supported his World Cup ambitions, leading to the re-deal.
“We fully support Fahey’s desire to represent his country at the 2027 Rugby World Cup, which ties in with our own philosophy of aiming high and enabling our athletes to fulfill their ambitions,” he said.
Finegananofo will still join the Red Bulls on a three-year deal from 2027-29. after the end of the Rugby World Cup.
“I’m excited to stay in New Zealand with the Hurricanes next season,” said the winger.
“I’m proud of what we achieved last season and I’m looking forward to helping defend the Super Rugby title while continuing to put my hand up for the All Blacks ahead of the Rugby World Cup.”
NZR Professional Rugby Relationships General Manager Simon Simmers added that the solution works for all parties.
“We are delighted to have reached a positive decision for Fehi and look forward to seeing him continue to play his rugby in New Zealand until 2027 and chase his dream of playing at the Rugby World Cup.”
