On the surface, Ethan Page and Rusev may seem like an unlikely pairing. As Page recently explained, however, they actually share a few points in common.
“I don’t think there are a lot of guys that are trying to approach Rusev and start a new company. So I understand what I’m getting into and who I’m dealing with,” Page said. “TMZ’s Inside The Ring.” “I understand the situation and the relationship. Most importantly, I understand the relationship, what he brings to the table, and maybe what I bring to the table, or what he doesn’t think I bring to the table. I am well aware of his views on the whole matter. I just see more benefits to us working together than not working together.”
According to Paige, of all the talent on the WWE Raw roster, Rusev’s view of the brand most closely aligns with his own. Moreover, both “hate” the same people and have the same professional goals. On an even deeper level, both of their family histories are connected to southeastern Europe.
“He was born in Bulgaria. My family is from former Yugoslavia. We are both Balkan. I grew up with the same upbringing, so I can get him there a little bit,” Paige added.
Paige and Rusev’s first tag team appearance pitted them against Jevon Evans and then Intercontinental Champion Penta. May 4 “RawPaige and Rusev emerged victorious. Most recently, they defeated Chad Gable and Penta on July 20th. “Bulgarian Birt” has been out of action since July 27 The injury sustained during a singles match with Evans.
