Eric Jones and the Legacy Motor Club agreed to a contract extension Sunday, keeping Jones behind the wheel of the No. 43 Toyota as the organization continues to build toward the future.
The announcement comes as the Legacy Motor Club continues to navigate a challenging stretch of the 2026 season. Jones has three DNFs this season, all of which have come in the last five races.
Asked by Reid Scearce of Fan4Racing about Legacy Motor Club’s pre-race media availability about the No. 43 team’s path to success following the contract announcement at Sunday’s race at Kansas Speedway, Jones said the team is looking for a reset.
“Well, we’ve got a little way to go,” Jones said. “You know, we just had a stretch here that didn’t go our way, and I think we were looking for that reset.”
Jones says sometimes all a team needs is one race where everything falls into place, whether it’s a strong car, good tactics or a timely caution.
“You get that race where everything just goes for you,” Jones said. “And even if you have a decent car, maybe some things go well during the day and you get a couple of good calls or a caution here and something makes your day great and that’s what we need.”
A competitive caution on lap 35, Jones says, is an opportunity to make adjustments and move forward.
“The yellow on District 35 is good for us,” Jones said. “You know, we’re starting on the 30th, so hopefully we’ll kind of get ahead and then take a break and reset and go from there.”
Pointing to Kansas as a track where a good car can make up ground, Jones recalled his second-place finish at Michigan International Speedway earlier this season as an example of what the 43 team could do.
“Kansas is the place to go. If you have a good car, you know, I think back in Michigan earlier this season, we started dead last and it was one of our best races of the year. If you’ve got the car, this is the place to get it done and go ahead,” Jones said.
Jones says the team’s immediate goal is to halt the recent slide and establish some consistency for the remainder of the season.
“We just have to move. You know, we want to finish in the top 20, and we don’t want to finish in the top 20 and have points again.”
With Jones now secured with Legacy Motor Club after the current season, the team has several opportunities ahead to turn around its final stretch.
“We should have a good stretch here until the end of the year, and we’ve got some good tracks to do that, and that, I think, starting today in Kansas, so we’ve just got to get it going.”
