The chairman of Matchroom Boxing has stressed that the focus should simply be on respecting the existing fight agreement.
“Dana White has tried to get involved in a fight that he has nothing to do with,” Hearn told iFL TV. “All we’ve ever done is say, ‘We’ve signed our contract.’ Just respect the contract we have signed.
Hearn claimed that Joshua was offered more money to take the fight to the US, but remained committed to taking the fight to Britain. He believes public support for a UK venue has only strengthened Joshua’s position and says discussions are now focused on moving forward with the original plan.
“Anthony Joshua could have taken many millions more to fight in America,” added Hearn. “We want the fight in Great Britain. The support we’ve had on social media, on my social media, on AJ’s social media, has made us double down on our principles on that. We’re not trying to hurt the fight.”
Cardiff’s Principality Stadium has emerged as the UK’s leading choice, while Wembley has also been mooted. Ultimately, Hearn stressed that Joshua will make the final decision on where the fight will be held.
