Dricus du Plessis hails a potential middleweight trilogy with Roberto Soldic
Soldic lost the KSW welterweight title to du Plessis in April 2018, suffering a second-round TKO loss. “Robocop” reclaimed the belt nearly six months later, knocking out du Plessis in the third round of their rematch.
When du Plessis joined the UFC after a stint with KSW, Soldic competed One championship before signing with the UFC earlier this year. He made his Octagon debut at welterweight Kalin Williamswon by unanimous decision.
When asked about Soldic in an interview with Fight Forecast, du Plessis welcomed the chance to renew their rivalry in a rubber match.
“It’s great,” du Plessis said of Soldic joining the UFC. “Soldic has been the best fighter outside the UFC for a long time in a lot of people’s minds. Yes, he’s a welterweight. It’s 1-1. Being the best outside the UFC is not the best in the UFC. We’ve seen it many times. It’s on another level. You know, a superfight (could happen) that a few times if he wins, he goes down, we’ll do a middleweight fight.’ I think that would be amazing. I think that fight would be great.”
“Stillknocks” has only competed in the UFC middleweight division, meaning Soldic would have to move up a weight class for a possible trilogy match with the South African.
