Drew McIntyre has been very candid about his feelings for CM Punk. assuring fans that the on-screen hatred between them is very real. The two rivals last faced each other at WWE Bad Blood 2024, where they had a brutal Hell in a Cell match. McIntyre believes the rivalry is even the first HIAC between The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels.
On “The Joe Fox Podcast” McIntyre said he was proud of his many matches, but felt that the final match with Punk was a true example of his best character performance. “It’s one that, if it’s a new fan, and there’s a video that goes before that kind of helps show the story that they’ll see everything they need to see; “Wow, this is what professional wrestling can be like!” Because that’s pro wrestling at its best, that’s McIntyre-Punk.”
Once again admitting his dislike of Punk, McIntyre stated that they were both professionals and knew they could work together, even though Punk had “Charles Manson-like qualities”. He also believes they both share a similar view of the industry that helped fuel the feud.
“It was our Mona Lisa. Like, it was a perfect wrestling program, no matter how we treated each other and felt about each other.”
The wrestler also argued that the Hell in a Cell clause had become overused and lost its mystique, but the final chapter of his feud with Punk was the final straw on which the clause was based.
