The Ravens gave the ball to Derrick Henry nine times in the first quarter Sunday against the Saints, and the last of those touches was a touchdown that gave Baltimore a 7-0 lead. But as the game continued, Henry disappeared.
Even though the Ravens led most of the game, Henry was barely getting the ball. In the fourth quarter, when the Ravens went from a 17-9 lead to a 24-17 loss, Henry carried the ball just once. Overall, Henry finished the game with 16 carries for 68 yards and three catches for 19 yards.
Henry didn’t complain after the game about his absence, but he said the whole team needed to be better.
“We just weren’t good enough in the second half to win this game,” Henry said, via Baltimore Sun. “We were in a position to win this game. We just have to be better. We just weren’t good enough — at all.”
Asked if Henry wasn’t getting the ball because he was hurt, coach Jesse Minter said there was nothing wrong with Henry.
“Derrick was definitely himself,” Minter said.
Minter acknowledged that the Ravens will need to improve in the possession game.
“This team is going to have a lead (again),” Minter said. “We’re going to continue to follow and learn from what happened in those situations. We’re going to get better and put our guys in the best position to be successful given the circumstances.”
