The intervention of the TMO to refer to Cam Roigard’s potential misplay on Declan Meredith in the act of scoring the try raised questions of ongoing officiating after the second Bledisloe Test.

The review was sent minutes after the stoppage, in which Roigard brought down Meredith and held Meredith down with his leg before Beauden Barrett got over the top and kicked the ball away.

The All black people took possession and continued play, and the on-field umpire wasn’t interested in a second look after seeing Barrett knock the ball out of Meredith’s grasp.

By the time the TMO stopped play to look at a potential try, play had progressed by several minutes, raising the issue of having the game clock reset to the point of a try should it be won.

All Blacks head coach Dave Rennie was on the scene for the incident, and said many coaches would likely be interested in the discussion.

“I means these are probably discussions for a a lot of coaches,” Rennie said after the match.

“We are it goes that to be up in in London in a couple of weeks, and there it is an opportunity for to everyone that discuss that.

“But you know, if you gone back that that, unless they, you know, that was a Penalty try it do you take it the two minutes off that we are only lost in the the game?

“You look, there it is lots of questions that to be he asked around that. therefore, I I didn’t Got an answers for you now, but no doubts it will to be discussed in a couple of week.”

In the end, referee Luke Pearce ruled no foul on Roigard, preventing this potential situation from developing.

All Blacks captain Codie Taylor said Pearce’s decision was in line with the rule that you can defend but not actively kick the ball.

“I was off the field at the time, but my understanding was in the act of dribbling, you’re allowed to play the ball, and obviously that’s how Luke (Pearce) saw it.

“I think he kind of canceled it out with looks.”

“You can’t kick the ball,” Rennie added.

“So it’s considered that Cam didn’t kick him, but he’s just trying to defend himself to prevent him from dropping the ball.”
