Kyle Fletcher’s pursuit to regain the TNT Championship was unsuccessful as Darby Allyn defeated him to retain the title. “AEW Dynamite. Grand Slam France”.
The champion and the opponent came out of the gate with an exchange of blows, as a result of which the first pushed the second back to the corner. Allin responded with a kick that sent Fletcher into another corner. However, when he tried to dive through the ropes, he found himself caught and thrown into the ring barrier.
Aline bit Fletcher’s ear in response. With Fletcher stunned, he then drove the cross over the timer table. Fletcher eventually managed to get back up, only for Allyn to bring him right back up with a dive through the ropes. Shortly after, the action moved to the announced tables, where Allyn landed horribly on the French table.
Allyn looked for a coffin drop on Fletcher in the closing moments of the title match. Instead, his back met the ring apron with a loud thump. His head then met Fletcher’s Madness Mat. “The Protostar” followed shortly after with another brainstorm, this time on an exposed steel turn. Somehow, the bleeding Allyn managed to reach the vertical base once more and give Fletcher a taste of steel for himself. After Fletcher escaped the Scorpion Deathlock, he finally secured the win with a pair of Coffin Drops to retain.
Aline began his third reign as TNT Champion by defeating Kevin Knight (with help from Sting and Stephen Borden) at AEW All In. Earlier this year, Fletcher was forced to relinquish the title due to a meniscus injury. Knight claimed it in Casino Gauntlet which followed in the AEW dynasty.
Later at Grand Slam France, AEW World Champion Will Osprey will defend his title against Kazuchika Okada.
