Costa recently criticized UFC CEO Hunter Campbell after he was seemingly offered a short-notice five-round bout as the final fight of his current contract. While the former title contender is ready to take the five-rounder, he wants to be compensated accordingly and have plenty of time to prepare for the 25-minute bout. The Brazilian has even repeatedly requested to be released from his promotion.

Dana White Candidate Seriesacknowledged White’s frustration with the fighter, but revealed that “Borrachinha” has turned down a number of fights.
“Oh, yeah. (Paulo is) disappointed, yeah,” White said. “He’s been offered fights and he’s turned them down. We don’t just say, ‘fuck Paulo Costa’ and ‘you’re not going to fight’ and ‘no we’re not going to pay you’ and ‘no we’re not going to.’ Guys are regularly offered three fights a year, even guys who don’t fight. Tom Aspinallthe eyes are confused. He is offered fights. Think Paulo Costa isn’t being offered fights?
Costa previously called for an interim title fight against the light heavyweight champion Carlos Ulbergrehabbing from the injury, but later claimed the UFC wasn’t interested. Most recently, he was challenged by a former champion
Magomed Anchor Ship.
