CEO Dana White said he offered Shakur Stevenson his release from Zuffa Boxing, ending their partnership before the boxer competed for the promotion.Speaking at the UFC 333 post-fight press conference, White distinguished Stevenson’s situation from that of UFC fighters who want to opt out of their contracts.
Dana White cites Shakur Stevenson’s brief time at Zuffa Boxing when asked about UFC fighter contracts
Asked if Stevenson was difficult to work with, White refused to criticize the boxer or his representatives.
“Look, man. I think it’s all about it. They’re happy with the way we’re at it. I don’t have anything bad to say about him or his team, but I offered him a waiver and they accepted.”
Stevenson’s departure also raised the question of why he might have left when UFC fighters seeking exemptions are under contract. White pointed to the brevity of their business relationship.
“Well, we never fell out with the guy. We were in business with him for a few months,” White said.
White did not identify a specific reason for ending the partnership and did not provide further details of the discussions.
