CJ Gardner-Johnson has a history of bad behavior on the football field. Gardner-Johnson has been penalized numerous times for dirty hits and chippy plays that crossed the line throughout his NFL career, and was sidelined in 2024 with the Philadelphia Eagles for unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. Gardner-Johnson signed with the Buffalo Bills during the offseason and had an inappropriate contact with Brock Bowers during the team’s Week 6 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Gardner-Johnson and Bowers had jaws after the game, and Bills defenders spat at him as he went back to the huddle. That’s a big no-no in the NFL, and the citations got Gardner-Johnson out of unsportsmanlike conduct.

Take a closer look at the spitting time:
Football is a violent, confrontational game, but players on both sides still need to respect each other. Gardner-Johnson is far from a star, but he can be a good player in his role when he keeps his head on straight. I hope this exorcism teaches him a lesson, but I doubt it.
