Upon her return to WWE, Chelsea Green re-established herself as a heel and built a persona that was not only a bad guy, but often a temper tantrum when she didn’t get her way. Conversely, Green is now a major fan favorite, with many praising WWE for winning the WWE Women’s Championship at SummerSlam.
“It was the perfect storm of them loving this annoying character, but maybe also loving my take on wrestling. It’s kind of a fresh approach because we’ve had a lot of the same attitude about wrestling for many years,” he offered during an interview with Matt Cardona.Random with Katie NolanAlthough he didn’t say exactly which version he was referring to, Green he’s made announcements where he’s been cutting promos that sound “too wrestling” recently. Green explained that it’s difficult to create new characters that also break current pop culture trends while still being fresh ideas that haven’t been done before.
“At this point in time, I really feel like it’s better to let go of old movies and things that we can remake in our own way,” he exclaimed. “I wanted this character to be the opposite of what a hot girl should be.” She then explained that the character she had in mind was funny and self-deprecating, while she still wanted to be a “hot girl.”
“There’s a lot of layers to this,” Green said of her character after returning to WWE, describing herself as a “Karen” who was much taller. “Over time, I added comedy to it and he got funnier and funnier, and then I think people realized through the media, through our Netflix show ‘Unreal,’ through interviews, that, ‘Oh, maybe I like him.’
