The 2026-27 Champions League kicked off in thrilling style with 21 goals in six games in the first half of Matchday 1 on Tuesday.
Borussia Dortmund and Real Betis secured 3-2 victories over Villarreal and Lille, after Aston Villa also won by the same scoreline on the night.
We’ve already covered that Manchester City’s 2-0 win over Porto i Real Madrid win 2-1 against Inter Milan too, but read on as we cover the rest of the action on Tuesday evening.
Borussia Dortmund – Villarreal 3-2
Serhou Guirassy’s brace in the final 10 minutes of the game earned Borussia Dortmund an entertaining win over Villarreal, with the striker also scoring an own goal in a crazy game.
Renato Veiga’s own goal gave BVB the lead in the first half, but Villarreal equalized in the 66th minute through Santiago Mourinho, only for Guirassy to become the hero with the winning double, the second of which came from the penalty spot.
Guirassy then strangely turned the ball into his own net to give the Yellow Submarine late hope, but the Bundesliga side were able to hold on and claim victory.
Little 2-3 Real Betis
Troy Parrott was the hero again for Real Betis as the Spanish side twice came from behind to win 3-2 in the Champions League.
Lille had twice gone ahead with goals from Ayase Ueda and Alexsandro, but Marc Bartra twice leveled the game with headers before the home side went down to 10 men when Ethan Mbappe was sent off.
Parrott then had another crucial moment, just as he did against Real Madrid at the weekend, tapping home from Isco’s through ball to complete Real Betis’ comeback and seal a big win in their first Champions League game since 2005-06.
AEK Athens 1-0 LASK
AEK Athens edged LASK 1-0 in Tuesday’s Champions League tie, with Razvan Marin producing the decisive moment in the 21st minute with a superb free-kick from outside the box into the top corner.
AEK largely controlled the game after going ahead, while Luka Jović had several chances and even found the net in the second half, only for his header to be ruled out for offside.
LASK pushed for a late equalizer and went close in stoppage time, but AEK held firm to secure three valuable points on their return to the Champions League.
