October 26: CBS Sports has acquired the US Spanish-language rights to the Concacaf Champions Cup, giving Paramount the full package along with the English-language rights it already owns.
Both deals will run until 2030. Paramount+ will show all 51 Champions Cup games each year in English and Spanish, with select games free on the CBS Sports app in both languages.
The move ends TUDN’s run as the Spanish-language home of the tournament. The TelevisaUnivision channel had been running the contest for several years.
Spanish language rights are the more valuable of the two in many respects. Mexican clubs have dominated the competition, winning all but one of the last 21 editions since 2006, and 40 of 60 overall.
People of Mexican descent make up about 11.2% of the US population and about 60% of all Hispanic Americans, and much of this audience closely follows Liga MX clubs such as Club América, Chivas and Tigres. Bringing these games to Paramount+ in Spanish gives CBS direct access to one of the most engaged soccer audiences in the country.
The competition was founded in 1962, became the Concacaf Champions League in 2008 and returned to its original name in 2024.
The deal strengthens Paramount’s growing portfolio of football in its home market of the US, which already includes the UEFA Champions League and the English Football League. Earlier this year, CBS Sports also secured the rights to the main AFC competitions until 2028.
