Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur said this week he feels good about getting Jeremiah Love back being in formation against the Chargers in Week 1, but it remains to be seen what role the rookie will play after an ankle injury.
It seems clear that any role for Love will involve sharing time with Tyler Allgeier. The Cardinals have Allgeier listed as the No. 1 running back on their first depth chart of the regular season. Bam Knight ranks third in rushing.
That was the case in the preseason, too, though Love didn’t play after injuring his ankle in the team’s first game of the summer.
Depth charts can change, and it’s hard not to imagine Love will end up getting more and more work if he produces the way he did at Notre Dame, but, for now, the Cardinals are calling Allgeier the starter.
