October 16 – The Argentine Football Association and the Professional Football League have named electric vehicle manufacturer BYD as the league’s new main sponsor.
The agreement offers the Chinese company a wide brand and commercial visibility in the Argentine top division. BYD Argentina will run fan activations throughout the season, including ticket giveaways, raffles and stadium initiatives.
The deal comes as BYD marks its first year in Argentina, where it has grown rapidly in the new energy vehicle market. The league’s sponsorship puts the brand in front of one of the most passionate football audiences in the world, in a country where the game reaches almost every home.
It also expands BYD’s push into soccer sponsorship. The company already has automotive partnerships with Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan, and the Argentina deal is its biggest move into South America to date.
Chinese EV makers have been using sports to build brand recognition as they expand into new markets, with soccer providing the widest reach. For BYD, a league-wide deal in Argentina gives visibility to all clubs and every game, rather than through a single team.
For the LPF, it secures a major international sponsor at a time when the profile of Argentine football is high following the recent success of the national team and continued global interest in its players.
