The Bykov intend to honor the former player and broadcaster Stacey King in the 2026/27 season, after his death in June, the team announced today in a press release.
According to the Bulls, the team’s jerseys for next season will feature a “King” stripe on the upper left side. The I in King will be replaced by a microphone in honor of the two decades he spent as a broadcaster in Chicago. Image of this band can be viewed here.
Also, on February 4, 2027, when the Thunder come to Chicago, the Bulls will host a Stacey King Night. It will be the team’s first home game since King’s 60th birthday on Jan. 29. In today’s announcement, the Bulls did not provide details on what the holiday will entail, so more information will be released at a later date.
The sixth overall pick in the 1989 NBA draft, King spent his first four and a half professional seasons with the Bulls and was a member of Chicago’s championship teams in 1991, 1992 and 1993.
After retiring as a player and coaching for several years in the Kontinental Basketball Association and D-League, King joined the Bulls’ local broadcasts. He was originally a studio analyst for the team’s pre- and post-game shows before becoming the lead color commentator for the Bulls.
The king died just over three months ago at the age of 59 years.
