October 30: Bulgarian First League club Dunav Ruse has received a €100,000 grant from the local municipality.
The funds are to support the club’s senior team and youth academy until the end of 2026. The financial package, approved by the Ruse Municipality parliament, will mainly cover operational expenses for Dunav’s championship participation until the end of the calendar year, including match fees, organizational costs, team transport and the ongoing training and development of youth football academies.
Highlighting the club’s importance to the local community, city councilor Plamen Rashev said: “We see the football club as something deeply connected to us and to the majority of the citizens of Ruse. That is why, during last year’s ‘Athlete of the Year’ ranking, recognizing the performances of the players and the club, the football club was honored as ‘C’.”
Addressing the scale of funding in relation to top level operating costs, the City Council noted that while €100.00 is a modest amount for a first division budget, it reflects the current capabilities of the municipality and the maximum possible support.
“100,000 euros is an amount that, for a First Division budget, is more or less modest, but these are the current capacities of the municipality and this is all it can contribute”, said the Council.
After 12 games, Dunav Ruse is ninth in the 14-team Bulgarian First League.
