It didn’t take long Josh Hockey to impress inside the Octagon, racking up four straight wins in seven months. Three of those wins came by second-round TKO, including his most recent win by stoppage Derrick Lewis (see it here).
And it was this impressive run that led “The Incredible Hok” to a title fight in record time as he challenged the UFC heavyweight champion, Cyril Ganein UFC 334main event at Madison Square Garden in New York (more precisely here).
Indeed, the rugged big man has already provided fans and media alike multiple audio bytes which has rubbed people the wrong way. Often portraying someone with a split personality as part of his gimmick, Hokit has made it clear that this is his thing.
Most, including the UFC CEO, are not fans of Hokit’s antics, Dana Whitewho has made it known that he doesn’t really care Hokit’s brand of trash talk. However, he has also written that he will never muzzle her. Another person who isn’t a big fan of Hokit’s shtick is the UFC broadcast announcer, Bruce bufferwho says the big man could use a lesson.
“You’ve got a guy like Josh Hokit, a heavyweight. He can fight, but I don’t like what he’s talking about. I think he’s disrespectful,” Buffer said in a recent interview. “And I’m sorry, Josh, if you’re watching, but that’s just the way it is. It’s his thing, it’s his game, it’s just not my style.”
“It’s like, show some class, that’s who I am,” Buffer explained. “The things he said in the White House, I’m sorry, but I didn’t appreciate it.”
Still, Buffer — who is one of the UFC’s most respected figures — says his personal feelings toward Hokit won’t deter him from doing his job when the time comes.
“And it doesn’t want to put Josh down,” Buffer concluded. “But when I introduce him, when you step into that octagon, male or female, put your blood, sweat and life on the line, I’m there to perfect that moment for you and I’m going to give it my all.”
UFC 334 another interesting thing awaited.
The best athlete in each division?
I think this roster is solid overall, but Whittaker (205) and Hokit (HW) feel like misfires. Cyril Gane or Aspinall are selected for the heavyweight …
