Mitchell has weighed in on the current rules in light of the recent discourse about banning knee strikes in MMA. The
Ultimate Fighting Championship The bantamweight is heavily opposed to banning strikes, which he considers one of his best weapons.
Why is Bryce Mitchell opposed to banning angled hits and supports face stomping?
While an oblique kick can cause serious knee injuries, Mitchell notes that MMA is a brutal sport. If the rule needs to be changed, “Thug Nasty” believes in legalizing stomping a grounded opponent in the face, as
pride era.
“They’re talking about taking away the slant, which is really, really stupid,” Mitchell said on Instagram. “It’s a perfectly fair shot; anyone can do it. Yeah, you’re going to hurt your knees. But guess what? It’s a fight… Who cares if you get kicked in the knee? It’s a fight. I think if they were to make one rule change it would be to add stomping. There’s no more effective move than stomping; I’d never get much of an end if I never had one. A grounded opponent is actually my best move. So every time, when you see me fight i can’t even pull off my best move man you gotta work hard.
Mitchell also recommends removing rounds and prohibiting weight loss.
“All rules favor boxers who fear takedowns and strikes,” Mitchell wrote in the caption of his Instagram post. “These new proposed rule changes are bullshit. Let’s fight and if you want to make changes, make rounds and cut weight so we can really get down and see who’s the best.”
