John Moxley defeated Orange Cassidy to retain the Continental Championship in the opener “AEW Dynamite” tribute to the Pac showafter which an emotional meeting with Brian Danielson took place.
Moxley logged in later the opening ten bell greetingwith a chair and a towel set out to represent Pac. Cassidy was emotional throughout his entrance and in the ring, as was referee Bryce Remsburg.
The opening segment was marked by chain wrestling, which Moxley outplayed for the most part. He then followed with a pileup, pausing before the last drop to soak in the crowd’s cheers, and sent Cassidy from the ring to the announcer’s table.
He tossed Cassidy back into the ring, but Cassidy left the ring, honoring his saga with Pac. Moxley thought he had Cassidy, but then Cassidy caught him with a shirt and DDT back into the ring for the first nearfall.
Cassidy got into a blistering exchange that started with his slow jabs at Moxley and eventually Moxley himself started throwing slow jabs and taunted his way to his pocket before throwing Cassidy out. They traded Brutalizer attempts until Moxley ran the ropes like Pac, dropping Cassidy and the Death Rider for the win.
Moxley stayed in the ring after the match as Danielson’s music played, emotional as he made his way down to the ring. They hugged in the middle of the ring as both shed tears and the crowd chanted “He’s our b******” to end the segment.
