September 30 – Iliyan Filipov, the owner of the Bulgarian club Botev Plovdiv and founder of the major transport company PIMK, was killed overnight in Plovdiv. He was 53 years old.
The fatal incident occurred around 1am outside the businessman’s residence shortly after he attended the UEFA Nations League match between Bulgaria and Estonia at the Hristo Botev Stadium.
According to unconfirmed reports, Filipov died from a single gunshot wound to the head. According to reports, the shooter fled into a nearby forest area immediately after the attack. Police have not yet confirmed any arrests or identified any suspect profiles.
Law enforcement has cordoned off the residential complex where the murder took place, restricting traffic on several surrounding streets. Plovdiv’s main entry and exit points have been blocked, and police are searching for suspicious vehicles, according to local media reports.
Filipov was a prominent business figure in the region, having built PIMK into one of the largest transport and logistics companies in the Balkans before expanding into construction. In particular, his construction company took care of the renovation of the Hristo Botev Stadium before its acquisition of Botev Plovdiv.
