Booker T’s WWE WrestleMania 19 clash with Triple H has been hotly debated among fans for years. With the racial overtones of the opponent, many believed that Booker T (as a babyface) should have defeated Triple H, but Booker lost to a heel.
Booker previously claimed he had no problem with result or promo parts, and felt that the game is good regardless of the criticisms. In the last interview “Insight with Chris Van Vliet” Booker again addressed the feud and acknowledged the possibility of a different outcome. “That would be the only match of my career that I can honestly say, maybe if I could have changed that finish, … I would have changed it,” he said.
Booker claimed that there was never any discussion about him winning at WrestleMania 19. He also noted that he never went into a match thinking he had to win, and insisted he never got involved in backroom politics.
“I know a lot of people wanted me to win, and I love those people for that,” he added. “When I got into the business, I was like, ‘Man, I hope to main event WrestleMania one day.’ … And then I entered the main event, and I didn’t win, I go. “Man, I wish I had won.” Reflecting on the story, Booker insisted that it was a great story, while admitting that most people simply wouldn’t understand how real it was to him.
Although the match between Booker and Triple H was for the World Heavyweight Championship, it’s worth noting that it took place in the middle of the card rather than the main event.
