Former US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez is in action at the Singapore Open on Wednesday and is a considerable favorite against Alycia Parks, who is ranked 39 places below Fernandez at world No.70.
Parks, however, has a positive record against his fellow American, whom he beat at this year’s French Open to ensure that he has won two of his three meetings.
Both players won their opening sets against qualifiers, with Parks perhaps having the easiest draw against lucky loser Yamaguchi Mei.
Fernandez is the sixth seed and odds-on to beat her unseeded opponent, but their past encounters suggest the first set should go to a ninth game.
In the Feminine Champions Leaguereigning Italian champions Roma are favorites to beat Leuven but may find it more difficult than the odds suggest against rivals they shared a 1-1 draw with in Belgium at this stage last season.
Leuven have scored in all their qualifying games and reached the play-offs on their debut in the competition last season, with Arsenal and eventual champions Barcelona the only teams to beat them.
Barça also return to play at home against Paris FC, who they beat 2-0 away from home last season.
The visitors were the second-lowest scorers among the teams not eliminated after the league stage last season, while the hosts can call on Champions League 2025/26 top scorer Ewa Pajor and new signing Kerolin in attack.
