Declan Rice grabbed a late equaliser arsenal fought back to earn a 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich in an entertaining Champions League confrontation at the Allianz Arena.
Eberechi Eze had given Mikel Arteta’s side the lead in the first half before Alphonso Davies equalized for the home side.
Former Tottenham striker Harry Kane put Bayern ahead from the penalty spot after the break, but Rice scored in the 82nd minute to ensure the points were shared.
The result leaves Arsenal seventh in the Champions League stage with seven points from three games, while Bayern are 14th with five.
Eze strikes after Saka’s injury setback
Arsenal suffered an early blow when Bukayo Saka was injured after just 10 minutes.
The England winger had made a promising start but was stopped while attempting a routine pass, appearing to be suffering from a muscle problem.
Eze replaced him and made an immediate impact, although Bayern had chances to go ahead.
Serge Gnabry squandered a particularly good chance in the 21st minute when he found himself on goal, but failed to beat David Raya.
Arsenal punished that foul four minutes later with brilliant play from Martin Odegaard and Eze.
The Gunners captain produced an excellent long pass over the Bayern defence, which allowed Eze to run into the penalty area and calmly flick a left-footed shot past Manuel Neuer.
There was a brief VAR check for offside, but Josip Stanisic had played the Arsenal midfielder and the goal stood.
Arsenal almost doubled their lead when Bruno Guimaraes found himself unmarked at the back post from a corner, only to send his effort wide.
Bayern continued to threaten, however, and eventually equalized in the 35th minute.
Kane dropped deep to collect possession before producing a superb pass from near the halfway line, splitting the Arsenal defense and finding Davies behind Jurrien Timber.
The Canadian winger raced onto the ball and guided a composed right-footed shot past Raya into the bottom corner.

Kane puts Bayern ahead before Rice can respond
The second half started at a frantic pace, with two goalkeepers making exceptional saves.
Neuer somehow kept out Guimaraes’ header from a Rice corner, pushing the ball onto the crossbar before Bayern cleared.
Moments later, Raya produced an equally impressive save at the other end, diving to his right to deny Dayot Upamecano’s powerful header from a Gnabry cross.
Eze then threatened to restore Arsenal’s lead when he beat Konrad Laimer inside the penalty area, but Neuer stood firm to block his effort from a tight angle.
Bayern finally took the lead in the 61st minute after being awarded a handball penalty.
Laimer laid the ball to Kane, whose shot hit Timber’s raised arm as the Arsenal defender tried to block.
After a VAR check, the penalty was upheld and Kane stepped up to send Raya the wrong way before firing high into the left side of the net.
The goal extended Kane’s remarkable goalscoring record against their former north London rivals and made him only the second player, after Cristiano Ronaldo, to score in 10 consecutive Champions League appearances.
Bayern threatened to extend their lead, with Laimer headed wide after a dangerous counter-attack.
Arteta responded by introducing Viktor Gyokeres and Myles Lewis-Skelly, while Vincent Kompany brought on Luis Diaz and Lennart Karl.
Diaz almost struck when he cut in from the left and fired on goal, forcing Raya into another fine save.
Arsenal continued to look for a way back and finally found one in the 82nd minute.
Rice started the move by switching play to Noni Madueke, who quickly found Gyokeres.
The Swedish striker held onto the ball before threading a perfectly weighted pass into the path of Rice, which allowed the England midfielder to fire a right-footed strike into the bottom corner beyond Neuer.
It was Rice’s first goal of the season and his first away in the Champions League.
