There were many names involved TNA’s Call Your Shot battle royale this past Sunday at Bound for Glory, but none perhaps bigger than Ben Bishop. The 6 ’10 Rhode Islander was the second-to-last entrant in the match, and while he wasn’t able to eliminate anyone, he made enough of an impression that some wondered if he could be on the TNA roster full-time. As it turns out, that hasn’t happened yet. Combat option reported that Bishop did not sign with TNA, even though those inside the company believed he made a good impression. Bishop commented on X’s report, joking that it was the reason TNA wouldn’t let him into the Dothan, Alabama building where TNA held its tapings this week.
Previously reported that Bishop has been a talent that TNA has had their eye on for some time, although previous attempts to hire him seem to have been thwarted by former TNA booker Tommy Dreamer, as the ECW veteran and Busted Open Radio co-host was said not to be a fan of the videos that Bishop posted on social media regarding certain character ideas. While Dreamer admitted that he told Bishop that he thought the videos were preventing him from being hired, he appeared to deny having anything to do with TNA not hiring Bishop, stating that he liked him and that Bishop not signing with TNA had more to do with a bad experience years ago.
Bishop has been busy waiting for an opportunity elsewhere, wrestling several times a month on the independent circuit, and even appeared in MLW’s Battle Riot match taped back in January. Bishop also made several appearances for AEW, competing in the “AEW Dark” matches in both 2021 and 2022. His most famous AEW match will be in 2024. when he was defeated by Roderick Strong on an episode of AEW Rampage.
