Laney Luck began his free agency era on Friday after it was revealed that WWE ID (Independent Development) would not be renewing their deal. That decision ended Luck’s 320-day reign as the Women’s ID Champion, and now “Lady Bird” Monica Monroe is the new successor. However, that was not the original plan.
WWE sources said Fighting Select that as of last summer, Brooke Havok was “considered and even planned” to succeed Luck and become the title’s third champion. Unfortunately, those plans fell through after Havok announced that he had torn his ACL and meniscus last month. Although it’s speculation as of this report, Havok could be out for next year. It appears WWE ID was planning to offer Havok a deal, but Fightful could not confirm if the deal went through.
Luck, who is currently the former and longest reigning Women’s ID Champion, originally won the championship in November 2025 after winning a six-woman match. She defended her championship in several different independent promotions, including Cody Rhodes’ Nightmare Factory, Beyond, Uprising Women Athletes, and Future Stars of Wrestling.
While many would be upset that his contract was not renewed by a titan like WWE, Luck took the news seriously, saying in a recent post: X: (formerly known as Twitter) that she’s a “lucky girl and she’s got it all figured out.”
