WWE is about to host its annual Crown Jewel Premium Live Event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on November 7. However, conflict in the Middle East continues and the kingdom’s capital has reportedly been targeted in recent days. Reuters reports.
WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select offered an update on what’s been happening internally at WWE in the weeks leading up to the event. The newspaper reports that several people at the company who regularly travel to events in Saudi Arabia are asking if there will be any changes or possibly a makeover at Crown Jewel.
The magazine reports that the word behind the scenes, as well as at WWE headquarters, is “great concern.” WWE has yet to acknowledge the situation internally, according to WrestleVotes. The company also hasn’t made a public announcement since the Crown Jewel’s due date is six weeks away.
Travel may be a concern, but as of this writing, Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport is currently open and operational as the region’s airspace remains open. The US State Department has has issued a level three travel advisory For most of Saudi Arabia, that means travel to the area should be reconsidered. A level four “Do Not Travel” advisory is in effect on the border with Yemen due to the threat of terrorism, according to the State Department’s website.
People with ties to the company, such as WWE Hall of Famer John Bradshaw Layfield, have spoken out in recent days. Layfield said if it is deemed dangerous, WWE will not travel Saudi Arabia and put the lives of its performers at risk.
