New Sixers the wing Jaylen Brown found a unique way to prepare for the upcoming season by stepping into the boxing ring for his first-ever fight on Thursday in Nigeria, writes CBS Sports’ Jack Maloney. Brown, who is in Africa with his nonprofit organization, the 7uice Foundation (Link to video on Twitter), admitted on social media that he didn’t really prepare for the fight before putting on the gloves.
Maloney describes the exhibition as more “public sparring” than an actual match, and although both boxers were wearing headgear, they were throwing legitimate punches. At one point, Brown delivered a sharp jab to his opponent, then a kick to the midsection.
Brown’s father, Quinton Marcel Brown, was a professional boxer who compiled a record of 33-18-1 with 25 knockouts. Maloney notes that during this year’s All-Star Weekend, Brown talked about turning to wrestling after his basketball career is over.
“I’ve been playing around with it, I’ve talked to some people. Maybe after my career is over, I’d like to be involved in something like the UFC or even boxing.” said Brown, who added that he had conversations with UFC president Dana White.
