Aston Villa made three wins from three in the Champions League with a comfortable 3-1 win over Norwegian Viking at Villa Park.
Ross Barkley and Emiliano Buendia scored in the first half before a Henrik Heggheim own goal extended the home side’s lead, although Peter Christiansen pulled one back late on.
Unai Emery’s side controlled the early stages and took the lead in the 23rd minute when Barkley met Ibrahim Mbaye’s corner with a header into the top of the net.
Buendia squandered a golden opportunity to double the lead soon after, heading home from close range after being picked out by Alysson.
The Argentine was denied by goalkeeper Arild Ostbo, who produced a fine save from another header.
However, Buendia made amends in the 37th minute after Alysson had received a foul from Zlatko Tripic inside the area.
After a VAR review, the referee awarded a penalty, which Buendia calmly converted into the bottom corner.
The goal made him the first Aston Villa player to score in four consecutive European appearances.
Viking offered little going forward in the first half, with Villa registering 14 shots and 1.98 goals expected before the interval.
The visitors improved after the restart, with Tobias Moi testing Zion Suzuki before Tripic forced the keeper into another save.

However, Villa added a third in the 62nd minute when Alysson broke into the penalty area and delivered a low cross which Heggheim deflected into his own net.
Viking continued to threaten, with Suzuki tipping Jesper Daland’s powerful effort over the bar.
Christiansen finally reduced the deficit in the 84th minute, meeting Kristoffer Askildsen’s cross with a first-time volley. The goal was initially ruled out for offside before VAR overturned the decision.
