And-Ones: Smith, Vegas, G League Trades, Breakout Team, More

Former NBA guard Kenny Smithwho has been an analyst for “Inside the NBA” since 1998, has joined a group of prospective owners Mark Lasry and Steve Apostalopoulossources tell NBA Insider Chris Haynes (Link to Twitter).

According to Haynes, the group is still in the running for a potential expansion of the NBA franchise in Las Vegas. Haynes hears that Smith has raised 20 percent of the rate.

Here are some more odds from around the world of basketball:

  • There have been several noteworthy trades in the NBA’s G-League over the past week. Westchester Nix have acquired the rights to return the player to the NBA veteran Elfrid Peyton in a trade with the Austin Spurs, according to the team (Link to Twitter). The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (Houston affiliate) have acquired the rights to Sean Pedula in a deal with four teams after being waived Rocketsalthough the sophomore guard has since signed a two-way contract with The necklaces (Link to Twitter through Vipers). Coachella Valley Lakers (Link to Twitter) acquired the rights to Micah Potter, Stanley Umude, James Banks III and Isaiah Miller of Austin in exchange for the rights to Malik Williams. Potter is currently under a non-guaranteed standard contract with Trail Blazers.
  • John Hollinger of The Athletic names its 12-man All-Breakout team for the 2026/27 season. In addition to the obvious choices like Mavericks forward Cooper Flagg and Spurs security guard Dylan HarperHollinger’s exit candidates also include lesser-known names such as Bykov forward Leonard Miller and Grizzlies two-way guard Yavon Maly. Great young people Colin Murray-Boyles (Predators), Alex Sar (Wizards) and Kel’el Ware (Bucks) among other players on Hollinger’s list.
  • In a column published shortly after Monday’s deadline, Hollinger of The Athletic explains why he is “at least somewhat optimistic about all seven” of beginner scale expansion who were signed this offseason. Hollinger was ‘probably the most suspect’ in five-year, $157.5 million deal Keyonte George signed with Art Jazzbut he still believes the rising young guard has a chance to live up to that contract, which includes $2.5 million in unlikely incentives and starts in 2027/28.
