Alexander Volkanovski Explains Why Movsar Evloev’s UFC 333 Title Fight Could Fail
Ahead of their title fight, Volkanovski explained that Evloev relies on his wrestling to get out of tough situations. The Australian champion believes his own grappling skills deny the challenger that backup option.
“I think it’s just not going to end well for him,” Volkanovski said in a pre-fight interview. “I don’t mean that in a bad way. I just think I’m the guy that takes that zero from him. He’s got incredible skills. He’s very efficient at what he does. . . . Whenever he’s been in trouble, he’s been able to rely on that wrestling and that fight to get him out of trouble. And you’ve got to respect that skill. But that’s not going to work with me. If I get free. if you get mad, you can’t just grab me and hang on to my leg or something like that… I just think I’m a nightmare for him.
Volkanovski has also demonstrated his defensive wrestling in previous appearances, including his first matches Islam Makhachovwho is ranked #1 in the UFC men’s pound-for-pound rankings. He has never been submitted in 32 pro fights.
