Alexander Isak says join Liverpool from Newcastle last summer was an “easy decision” despite the difficult circumstances surrounding his move.
The Swedish striker completed a British record £125m move to Anfield on deadline day in September 2025 after missing pre-season.
Isak had previously claimed the promises made to him Newcastle had been “broken” but insists he never regretted his decision to leave the club.
“Liverpool are a massive club, and everything about the club made that quite clear,” Isak told BBC Sport.
“And the club’s ambition and the club’s willingness to bring me in as well. It was a big part of it.”
The 26-year-old struggled for goals in his first season at Liverpool and suffered a broken leg which kept him out from December until April.
Asked if he ever regretted the move during that period, Isak said: “No, never. I would never think like that.”
Isak looks ahead after injury
Isak played just 22 games for Liverpool last season, playing 1,032 minutes in total, but has already equaled his previous Premier League total of three goals after just four games this season.
He says the experience of dealing with his long-term injury has helped him focus on the future instead of dwelling on what happened.
“(The broken leg) was tough. Anyone with a long injury would know that,” Isak said.
“But on the other hand, when you’re in a good place and when you feel good, you don’t tend to look back because it doesn’t really benefit you.
“So I’m just looking forward and feeling really optimistic and excited about the season and what it can bring.”
The World Cup gave Isak a one-time boost

Isak scored once and provided three assists as Sweden reached the last 62 of the World Cup before being knocked out by France.
The tournament also gave him a chance to improve his fitness and get his groove back after a frustrating campaign at club level.
“Playing for your country in a World Cup is most people’s dream,” Isak said.
“With last season’s injuries, the World Cup was perfect. I had that period where I could play and get rhythm and form.
“And also it was a huge experience, so it was perfect to do and come back here for the pre-season and start the season.”
